Not all Leathers are Created Equal

95% of the leather produced today is tanned in under 72 hours. How can it be made so fast you ask? Do you really want to know? Most leather is made using a toxic cocktail of chemicals and known carcinogens like Formaldehyde, Cadmium and Chromium XI. Only in the last few years have regulations come in to force in some countries that impose limits on chemicals in leathers that will come in contact with the skin (ie. upholstery leather), but those limits are set with adult bodies in mind. For leather to be safe for children a lot of time, skill and care is needed in the tanning process and few tanneries are willing or able to make it. This is one of the reasons why you should never buy cheap leather shoes for babies and to always check that products you buy are non-toxic. We scoured the earth to find the perfect leather to make our leather baby carriers so that you can be re-assured that your precious cargo is in good hands.
